why we love Drum n Bass

"Drum’n'bass is what i live for. I breathe, eat, sleep drum’n'bass.
It’s the only thing that really can move my feet on the dance floor."
Well, you ask your average junglist (that’s what d’n'bers are called)
and that’s basically the general answer that you’ll get. With such
passionate follower, how come their scene stays small? Is it because
the music is so foreign to your averaqge clubbers? What is it? Is it
too agressive? Is it too fast? After doing some soul searching, I’ve
finally realized that the problem is not in the music. It’s because the
so called event organizer/ party promoters kept on understimating the
potential of drum’n'bass. Days in, days out, 4 years since the
beginning of Javabass (Indonesia’s first d’n'b collective), promoters
has yet to organize rave with proper drum’n'bass area. Proper means
descent size area with 500+ capacity & proper sound system. For
example, the so called biggest dance music festival in Indonesia
(Jakmov’05) didnt even have a dedicated d’n'b rooms. As an
afterthought, they squeezed in 3 drum’n'bass djs together in the
nubreed (new djs) tent. All junglist should felt insulted with this
treatment. The junglists wait until d’n'b room begun at 10pm. The nu
breed tent that was basically empty the whole evening was instantly
filled with enthusiastic kids. Sudden surge in energy level could be
detected in the area.

All this time, us junglist have
constantly proof to the masses that our music is not something that
will clear the dance floor. For example, I opened for Linkin Park,
spinning d’n'b infront of 15000+ and people seemed to enjoy it. A month
ago I was booked to close an MTV event, playing right after one of the
more established rock band from Indonesia. I expect the usual playing
for 15 minutes, before everyone left. What actually happened was 5000+
people dancing their ass off to some of the most brutal d’n'b set I’ve
ever played. The conclusion I got is that people are actually ready for
d’n'b. In fact all these promoters didn’t realize the potential of
d’n'b. D’n'b is one of the most adaptable dance music. It can absorbed
any style of music and turn it into a fresh new style of d’n'b. It’s
the main reason why it manages to stay on the cutting edge of dance
music. From filtered disco influenced d’n'b to metal induced anthem
like Nightbreed’s Pack of Wolves, d’n'b continue to evolve and push the
technology. In turn, with such flexibility, drum’n'bass has the ability
to appeal to all kind of people, from the headbanger metal heads to
happy go lucky raver. It has the ability to become one of the most
marketable dance mussic out there.

Just give drum’n'bass a chance!
